Self-Respect * Truth * Accountability * Responsibility * Success
* an after school small group mentoring outreach to Junior High girls
History:
After hearing stories from girls who came to the Center pregnant and hurting, wishing they could "take it back" and "start over again", we asked, "Wouldn't it be nice if we could reach out to these girls and encourage them in making heathly decisions before they choose this path-- to have some preventive measures in place, instead of hearing time and time again, "If Only.."?
And so S.T.A.R.S. was born.
This after school program for 7th and 8th grade girl is founded on 5 principle issues:
Self- Respect:
In learning to respect yourself you can say "No" to unwise and unhealthy decisions.
Truth:
Media and peer-pressure can give you a diminished view of reality, especially in regards to your worth.
Getting an accurate perspective can help you navigate through life's decisions clearly.
Accountability:
Small group mentoring offers you time to talk through important life choices with a trusted and caring adult.
Responsibility:
Encouraging and equipping you to own up to your actions and the future you are working towards.
Success:
If you want to succeed you have to work at it.
Developing a plan of action and sticking to it will keep you on track to your hopes and dreams.
